Request An Activity

The Confucius Institute at UC Davis will consider providing educational and cultural activities in the following areas:

  • Food Science and Technology
  • Viticulture and Enology
  • Chinese Arts & Culture
  • Chinese Culinary Arts

We will do our best to accommodate requests, but factors such as timing, distance, and staffing may affect our availability. Our focus is on serving non-profit organizations in the local Davis and Sacramento area. If your organization is outside our region, transportation fees may be assessed.  In addition, requests from businesses will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

*We apologize that we are currently unable to do presentations in the K-12 school system.

Eligible Activities include:

Chinese Cooking Workshop

We offer hands-on experience of making dumpling, pot-sticker, bao (steamed bun with filling), or scallion pancake. The workshop includes a brief presentation on the history and cultural significance of the food, a recipe, step-by-step instructions, and tasting. 

Duration: 2 hours

Presentation on Chinese Food & Beverage Culture

We offer lectures on a wide range of topics related to Chinese food, tea, and alcoholic beverages. The lecture includes a PowerPoint presentation and tasting. 

Duration: 1 1/2 hours

Presentation on Chinese Festivals

We offer lectures on the history and cultural significance of traditional Chinese festivals, such as the Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Dragon Boat Festival. Sampling of the special food and beverages associated with the festivals will be included. 

Duration:  1 1/2 hours 


  • Activity Request applications are accepted year-round.
  • Requests are normally reviewed within 1 month of being submitted.
  • To be considered, requests must be submitted to us at least 8 weeks before the planned event.
