About Cooking Workshops

Workshops led by Kate Zhang.

  • REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. All workshops free and open to public unless otherwise noted. Signature of general liability waiver required. All equipment/ingredients provided.
  • Participants learn how to make (and then eat!) a traditional Chinese dish, and hear an explanation of the culture and traditions surrounding the dish.
  • Ingredients may include allergens (eggs, soy, nuts, wheat, shellfish, etc) and meat (pork, poultry, beef, fish, etc.) Please advise the instructor Kate Zhang, wkzhang@ucdavis.edu, of any dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences (dairy, gluten, meat, soy, nuts, etc.). We will do our best to accomodate your request.

Priority is given to new registrants. If you are a returning registrant, please email Kate for space availability at wkzhang@ucdavis.edu

No-Show Policy: Any person who registers and fails to either cancel or attend the workshop may not be allowed to register for future workshops. So that we can offer your spot to someone on the waiting list, we ask that cancellations be made 24 hours before the workshop begin time by emailing wkzhang@ucdavis.edu.

Chinese Flavors: Chinese Dumpling Workshops

As an indispensable part of Chinese cuisine, dumplings are very popular among Americans nowadays. Convenient as they are, commercial frozen dumplings are never as satisfying as handmade ones--freshly boiled, chewy, and filled with assorted fillings according to your own tastes. In this workshop, you will receive a brief overview of the history and culture of this amazing traditional Chinese food and learn to make dumplings from scratch. The workshop will conclude with participants cooking and eating your own creations. (A vegetarian option for dumpling stuffing is available.)
